๐ŸŽฎ Built-In DualSense Edge Features

Before considering the calibration tool, check what DualSense Edge provides natively through PS5 system software:

๐Ÿ”˜

Stick Dead Zone Adjustment

PS5 Settings โ†’ Accessories โ†’ Controllers โ†’ Adjust Sticks. Independent dead zone per stick, per direction. Applies in-console only.

๐Ÿ”„

Hot-Swap Stick Modules

DualSense Edge allows changing stick modules without tools. Sony sells official replacement Half-Dome and standard modules.

๐Ÿ“Š

Sensitivity Curves

Adjustable stick sensitivity curves for different games. Saved in controller profiles (up to 4 per controller).

๐Ÿ”’

Button Remapping

Full button remapping including back paddle buttons. Saved in controller profiles. Persists across all PS5 games.

โ“ DualSense Edge FAQ

Why is DualSense Edge only partially supported?
DualSense Edge uses the same base controller firmware as DualSense but adds an additional security layer on the NVS calibration registers. The standard calibration commands that work on DualSense are blocked on Edge without a hardware modification that bypasses this protection. The exact nature of the security layer was determined during community reverse-engineering efforts in 2024.
Can I use DualSense Edge with the calibration tool as a regular DualSense?
DualSense Edge can connect to the tool and the tool will display its controller info. The Center Calibration and Range Calibration wizards will run, but the resulting calibration data cannot be saved to NVS without the hardware modification. The calibration will work in volatile (RAM) mode and revert when the controller restarts. For most users, volatile calibration is sufficient for testing purposes.
What does the hardware modification involve?
The hardware modification is documented in the community, but involves soldering work on the DualSense Edge PCB. It is not a beginner procedure and carries risk of permanently damaging an expensive controller ($200+). We strongly advise that only experienced hardware modders attempt this. The modification and its effect on the NVS security layer are documented in the dualshock-tools GitHub Issues.
Should I buy DualSense Edge for its stick module swap feature instead of calibration?
DualSense Edge has a built-in stick module hot-swap system โ€” you can replace the stick modules without a screwdriver. Sony sells official replacement modules. The built-in PS5 system software also provides basic dead zone adjustment for DualSense Edge without any third-party software. For the majority of DualSense Edge users, the built-in PS5 tools and stick module replacement cover most drift scenarios without needing DualShock Calibration GUI.
